The scheme, in its first phase, will feature 200 40-seater, mass transit Marcopolo buses plying yellow lined, dedicated lanes from Berger Bus Stop on the outskirts of Lagos through Alapere, Oworonshoki, the Third Mainland Bridge and Obalende to the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Lagos Island. It is operated by the Lagos Bus Service (LAGBUS) Assets Management Limited and commuters are expected to purchase tickets for rides on these buses in advance. A BRT bus is expected to take off every five minutes. No other vehicles are allowed to drive on the BRT dedicated lanes and a contravention of the law prohibiting this attracts a fine of N50,000. Already, some 15 vehicles are said to have been seized for contravening the BRT law.
