He was the winner of the London’s Young Fashion Designer awards 04/05 and reading his thots makes him even more remarkable. At only 20 (he has been dubbed the world' youngest stylist), Mr Shoyemi has an impressive portfolio having been profiled in The Guardian, Metro, The London Paper, his work has been featured in Vogue, RWD and many other publications, he has moved to America to work with hotter stars...goodluck!!!

Nigerian Artistes tired of the ever increasing rate of armed robbery attacks and the ensuing insecurity, last Monday staged a solidarity march in Lagos State. The march was led by 2Face Idibia, who has endured more than his fair share at the hands of robbers and had D’banj, Tee-A, Teju Babyface, Ego, Wunmi Obe, DJ Tee, Ayo Animashaun, Princess, Jedi, Joyce Howie T, and a host of others participating.

The actress was a victim of a robbery sometime last week!
Narrating how the incident happened, Uche said, “ I don’t understand o. I drove into my compound and the next thing I saw were some people who pointed gun at my head and ordered me out. We were coming back from Abuja where we went to do a movie. They made away with the car and every other thing inside it.”

“It was as if I was the target. The robbery started and ended with me. Nobody else was attacked. People say maybe the robbers were sent, but who am I? Why would somebody want to attack ordinary Uche? It is still shocking but I am gradually getting over the incident.”

The Real me show:
A new Television Reality show known as ‘Real me show’ is about to debut Nigeria soon.The show aims at portraying the real lives of Nollywood stars and gives the viewing public the opportunity to see how these stars live behind the screen for 21 days. Sounds like a celebrity Big Brother to me...
The runner up would be entitled to a sum of N2 million, while the star prize winner would walk away with N10 million and a brand new SUV Jeep to go with it.

Naija Record Label Orangootan Signs Idols Stars :

Orangootan, the music label that's home to Naija stars Ashionye, Fadabasi, Ohun, Timmy Chris and Peace Josef, has just secured a sub-licensing deal with Pan African Entertainment for two of the Idols West Africa Top 10 contestants, namely Mercy and Uche.Carl Raccah, CEO of Orangootan, said, 'Nigeria is blessed with an abundance of singing talents and Mercy and Uche are two of the best!" Asked for a glimpse of the musical direction the label had in mind for the artists, Carl said to expect 'Christian Inspirational' from Mercy and 'Afro Soul' from Uche.Sam Mbelu, the spokesperson for Pan African Limited (one of the companies that helped facilitate Idols West Africa) said, 'It is encouraging to work with an entertainment outfit like Orangootan; the company really understands the music business and we hope to partner with them again on future projects."

Though 'The idols is back this year...its not coming to ~~Naija~~ West Africa! The new season of Idols will head to Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe early in 2008 and it is also open to citizens of Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Reunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia and Swaziland.

Serial life and star actress, Shan George has bared her mind on her new project, a tourism based reality TV show Trifled T.36 which aim is to empower the youths by exposing them to the cultural diversity in Nigeria.The star actress who started this at a press briefing recently, said the TV reality show has been taken to and their level as participants are required to send texts to a certain number where they can emerge as lucky candidates to participate at the event.She disclosed that contestants from every state of the nation will tour all the states and Abuja in eight weeks and their mission will be to acquaint themselves with the culture, beliefs, values and the general way of life of the Nigerian people.The screen diva disclosed that at the expiration of the visit to the six geo-political zones, contestants would undergo same tests and any two score lowest will be evicted.The show being organised by shandel productions, Shan George’s outfit will start in Lagos and end in Abuja with grand finale after a complete tour of the six geopolitical zones.However, it is not certain for how when the show will roll tape but it will definitely not be too long.

A traveling date has not been fixed yet but according to a source, the video will be shot in film format by DJ Tee in South Africa and edited in Nigeria . The project we gathered, will also serve as a medium to sell ‘Wande Coal’ as an artiste whose debut album may be dropping before the end of this year from Mo Hits...We ♥ us Wande Coal, but i just hope that the video does the song justice sha!!!

His vocal ability is straight up just undeniable...as heard on his solo offering "OLOLUFE" which is definitely the love song to have...forget "Oruka" and "Olo Mi" (Still great songs; don't get me wrong!) This event will celebrate his music, his life, and all the many truths he shared with his fans in his music. While there are several events planned around the world, by various organizations, to mark the 10-year anniversary of Fela's death, FELABRATION 10 will be the only one taking place in Nigeria, at the Shrine in Lagos, and hosted by the Kuti family. Gulder Ultimate show:

The fourth edition of the popular television reality show, Gulder Ultimate Search, which transmission was initially billed to begin on Thursday, suffered a setback on Saturday with the death of one of the 10 contestants. A statement by the organiser‘s Corporate Communication Adviser, Mr. Chuma Igwe, on Sunday said the contestant, Mr. Anthony Mudiaga Ogadje, died ”in what appears to have been a drowning accident” in Shere Hills Lake, Jos, Plateau State. The statement added that all attempts by the medical team, the lifeguards and his colleagues to revive him failed. The deceased, aged 25, was a graduate of geology from the Delta State University, Abraka. His family had since been duly informed while efforts were on as at press time to conduct autopsy on his remains in order to ascertain the actual cause of his death. Meanwhile, the organisers of the search have suspended it until further notice.

Statistics given by experts on Wednesday show that Nigeria could lose up to one third of its entire land area over the next 50 years -- This could see Lagos,Bayelsa & Rivers states and half of Cross River and Delta states submerged in 50 years due to Rising sea levels from warming temperatures! And advancing desert climate could render economic activities impossible in Kebbi,Sokoto,Zamfara,Yobe,Borno,Adamawa and Taraba states. The doomsday prediction can however be averted if appropriate measures are taken to tackle the growing consequences of climate change.

After the school was closed for four months,the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Osun State,yesterday fixed Sunday July 9 as the resumption date for academic activities.The school was closed down on February 28 when students protest disrupted the semester examination.The students were angry that the authorities had failed to give them at least one week to prepare for the examinations as stipulated by the university's rules.

Who Is Ruling Nigeria...Yar'Adua or OBJ???

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has emerged as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), displacing former Works Minister, Chief Tony Anenih who only three days ago got the nod of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to continue in office as BOT chairman.

I got the above headline in my news feed yesterday and I just smiled and thought to myself that Obasanjo is trying to take care of himself in his old age and how sad that there was a "coup" in PDP. Upon reading the article a little bit further, the smile started to slip as the implication of OBJ's "little" action carried a weightier problem for us Nigerians --- Obasanjo has found the perfect way to serve his "Third Term" as the nation's president!!!

How I'm sure you will ask? It is no longer news that Yar'Adua and OBJ have fallen out a bit over the fact that OBJ had a list of people he wanted on Yardy's cabinet which Yardy promptly turned down. Chief Anenih AKA "Mr. Fix It", held the position of chairman for the past few years and had already been announced as the chairman on Monday by the party secretary Chief Ojo Madueke after been given a nod from the National Executive Committee; but in a bizarre twist on Wednesday at a meeting where Anenih was noticeably absent but which was attended by OBJ,Yardy,V.P Goodluck,Senate President David Mark,House of Reps Speaker Mrs. Etteh,former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim,Senator Onyeabor Obi and former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu... Basically enough people to appoint a King or in this case a Chairman...OBJ was appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Now seeing as PDP is the ruling party and the Board of Trustees are usually involved in important decisions that affect the ruling of the nation albeit "undercover" and most importantly, handling funds -- Having OBJ as the Chairman is as good as having him as President of Nigeria --and we all know that wise adage "He who holds the purse strings, holds the power" and the Board of Trustees are holding plenty.

But what is most shocking is the fact that OBJ must have been planning this for a while as an amendment that gave him the leeway to run for this position was added to the party's constitution before he handed over power on May 29 this year. Now I'm not going to pretend to know the real happenings in the corridors of power, but after OBJ's desire to serve for a third term was shut down by the legislative, he then nominated Yardy as his candidate and must have thought he had found a malleable figurehead through whom he could accomplish all the "unfinished business" he kept harping on about in his bid to prove that he was/is the only indidvidual who could save Nigeria. But even this has proved elusive as Yardy has been keeping quiet about everything from his cabinet to his mandate...and only time will tell if his "wait-and-see" approach will be what the nation needs. Seeing that OBJ famously ignored IBB when he became President and everyone thought he would be IBB's puppet,could this prove to be a case of "what-goes-around-comes-around?"

But then again, this is just my opinion...might not count for toffee or maybe this issue might not be that important in the grand scheme of things at the moment...but then again; whats your opinion???

Following the success and turn out of the 1st Thisday Festival,They are gearing up 4 the 2nd one which is set to take place on July 14th & 15th 2007.The festival is going to last two days, just lyk d last one.There will also be a fashion show with the likes of Alek Wek and Naomi Campbell.Artistes already confirmed for the show include:John Legend,Shakira,Rihanna,Ne-yo,Kelly Rowland,Omarion and UB-40...Tickets for the two-day event will go on sale at all branches of GTBank on June 14. The classic ticket will cost N10,000 per day, while the VIP ticket will go for N25,000 per day. Tickets for the exclusive but limited state box will go for N50,000 per day. NEWS CORNER:
A female legislator was for the first time in Nigeria's political history, made the Speaker of the House of Representatives.Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh 54 years old(PDP, Osun) was unanimously elected Speaker shortly after inauguration of the House.Speaker Etteh is to be assisted by 35-year-old Babangida Nguroje (PDP, Taraba) who was also elected unanimously as deputy speaker.

What a fantastic year it has been for our very own Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie! She won the prestigious "Britain's Orange Prize for Fiction by Women" therefore becoming the first African and the youngest author to take the award in its 12-year history!

Chimamanda won the prize for "Half of a Yellow Sun," which is a book set during the Nigeria-Biafra conflict of the 1960s.While collecting the award at the London ceremony she said, "I can only tell you how profoundly happy I am,now I have to go and make a phone call to Nigeria". She gets the $60,000 prize which is awarded for a novel by a woman published in English. "Yellow Sun" was also a finalist earlier this year for the National Book Critics Circle fiction prize.

"Probing season" has started! Three former governors (James Ibori-Delta state,Jolly Nyame-Taraba state & Peter Odili-Rivers state) were made to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigative panel which is investigating how the former governors handled public funds in their respective states during their tenures, on Wednesday.

Kanu Nwankwo & Mode 9's Charity Album:
When Porthsmouth's Striker Kanu Nwankwo arrives Nigeria in a week for a brief holiday,The fragile-looking footballer will find time to hit the studios with respected rapper Mode 9 to record a song which will be part of the tracks on Kanu Heart Foundation’s upcoming charity album “Sing 2 Da Heart”. The song, already titled 94 (taken from Mode 9 and Kanu’s shirt No. 4) is expected to centre around the heart, with Mode 9 dropping incredible rap verses and Kanu attempting to rap also. And Kanu himself,admitted he was doing the song with Mode 9, along with another song he’ll be recording with several other artistes to draw attention to heart diseases. he explained that the projects are important to him, and he would be ‘shooting some videos’ with the artistes ‘during his visit in the next two weeks’. The Sing 2 Da Heart project will involve artistes lyk OJB, Jazzman, Weird MC, Mode 9 and several others headlining concerts in Lagos and London, to raise awareness and funds for The Kanu Heart Foundation and children living with heart diseases. After the Sing 2 Da Heart concert, there will be a bigger event in October, at a major venue and with five acts from Nigeria and five from the rest of the world. Awesome Entertainment which is owned by Dominic Ajufor is set to launch 3 groups into the Naija music industry -- Spice Boys (really?),Black Soldiers and Too Smooth...
The Spice Boys are Bolaji Legbeti(Beejay) and Temitope Odeyemi(Top Most) and their album which will be released later this year is titled "Tested OK" and is a fusion of Hip-Hop and R&B...as for the name choice,the boys say they are putting "spice back into the game"...
Too Smooth are Oluwasegun Oladele Dawodu(Big Fish) and Diaime Udo Ekoriko(Small Fish) who believe that they will be a force to reckon with because of what they have.As Oluwasegun puts it "We will make our own way. What we say is real life. Our album should be out next month.
Bad Soldiers are the duo of Christian Kalu(Spiritual) and Leonard Ikpegbue(Donnie Man) who hope that their "Gospel tinged with Ragga" music will show that they fight against injustices and social vices in Africa.

UPDATE ON NTM:
By now,many people who attended the Nigeria's Top Model Event have their varying thoughts on the show....with most of them veering on downright negative. One of the Organiser's (Arieta Mujay) who was working hard behind the scenes has come out to talk about the treatment she has met in the hands of the shows organiser.Click HERE to read her account (scroll down to the comment section),it doesnt make for pleasurable reading and it disheartens us that when Nigerians try to do something positive for fellow man and country,something or sumeone does something to hinder progress. As of today,the free ticket to Nigeria that everyone thought the winner had was taken from her and we can only hope the 3 girls get their prizes.

Tee-A's Live "N" Naked Show:

In the first leg of his 2007 comedy tour,Tee A will on May 6 hold his annual show Live N Naked at Porchester Hall, Bayswater, London, presenting appearances from Multiple award winning singer Tuface Idibia, returnee hip hop fusionist Weird MC, and cool singer Paul Play who only recently won four awards at the HipHopworld Awards 2007. Comedian Teju Babyface will join colleagues Basketmouth and Basorge Tariah Jr to thrill London residents.
The tour will continue in Lagos on May 29 when Live 'N' Naked returns to the Muson Centre, Abuja September 30; Kaduna October 1st. There are also plans according to Tee A, to take the concert to Sierra Leone and The Gambia.

On Monday,a 7-man gang abducted the elderly mother of the River State Governor-Elect Mr. Celestine Omehia from his residence but she was released late last night.Also abducted was a 16-year-old girl who later escaped and no motive for the abduction has so far been declared.

MTN Nigeria has announced plans to expand their network capacity to accommodate their growing list of subscribers.The network expansion will cost the company over $650million and should provide the necessary infrastructure for the 3G services which they have already acquired and paid for.MTN Nigeria was recently the first GSM operator to have paid and been awarded a 3G licence by the Nigerian Communications Commission and has since paid $150m for the license.

A Nigerian woman has caused further uproar in her home state of Kano by "marrying" four women last weekend and has had to one into hiding from the Islamic police with her partners. Under the Sharia law which is in use in Kano homosexuality and same-sex marriages are outlawed and considered very serious offences.The theatre where the elaborate wedding celebration was held on Sunday has been demolished by Kano city's authorities.

Nigeria's Top Model: What Happened...

Hey everyone,hope you had a great weekend?Here's hoping that this week is off to a flying start. So yeah,we attended the Nigeria's Top Model Event...and blogged on Saturday about the winner...uber short post!...and the first thing we have to say about the show is that the modelling was "On Point"!!! No, 2face wasnt there,neither was Omotola nor D'Banj...;-) but there were a few highlights.

Performances:
There were performances from Tavian who sang the national anthem...Chocolate Blonde (she's apparently got a music video that will be played on MTv soon)...oh my days this girl came up n started singin a song nobody knew but when she and her dancers started bustin moves to a faster version of "Candy Shop" the crowd was so hyped and it was indeed a good performance to get the show started, Benz and Rims, a Calabar dance troupe and Kas also performed...and his performance was prob'ly the most memorable,his dancer had the whole male attendees in awe and some of the females ones too wiv her booty clap and shake...teww mad!!!

The Catwalk:
...The girls modelled in 4 stages; 1st off in casuals...white tees and skinny jeans, 2nd--"Gele" still with their white tees, 3rd--Bikini...this part was so funny, trust naija guys now...wen the girls turned to walk off, guys were screaming cos of their butts...it was so funny! and the last stage was in Couture designed by Adebayo Jones (apparently there was no time to change into the Deola Sagoe's designs). Typical stuffs happened like a model fell...she probably must have bin embarrassed but she was actually not laughed at!Lol...Overall it was an alryt show but bearing in mind that it was a first timer,i'm sure the next one will be better...we enjoyed it cos the 'Model' we were rooting 4 won!!! You can catch the show lata on BEN TV sometime this week...but as that channel rarely ever follows the order of programme,u myt be lucky to switch on and catch it...and you can watch live streams online now here 4 u guys outside the UK.Here are just random pictures from the show, we r waitin on the professional pics from the producers...but we'll put it up as soon as we get 'em.

For a naija event,it was virtually hitch-free...well apart from the naija tyme (the show started at 10.30 instead of the advertised 7...lol) and a fyt that threatened to blow up at the end...didnt find out what it was about...we got the hell out of there!!!

President Obasanjo admits to flawed Guber elections.

INEC probe Guber elections in Ondo,Edo,Imo,Enugu and Delta States.

Armed militants attack Bayelsa Government House where Dr Goodluck Jonathan(Governor and PDP's VP candidate) was in.No lives were lost,but the attack lasted 35 minutes and a combined team of soldiers and mobile policemen repelled the attack.

Saturday 21st April:
Truck Bomb which was set to crash into National Election HQ in Abuja was thwarted...no lives lost...just delay in voting...As at early that morning,ballot papers had not reached some parts of the country...with voting not starting till afternoon in some places.

Sunday 22nd April:
The largest independent observer group (Transition Monitoring Group with 10,000 monitors across Nigeria) denounce the presidential election saying rigging and incompetence had so tainted the process that only a new vote could correct it.Numerous cases of blatant ballot-box stuffing,intimidation and other apparent efforts to skew results were reported and they also said the election never occurred in 13 of the country's 36 states.

Prof. Maurice Iwu(INEC Chairman)has directed the police to arrest any state governor,minister and other top government officials or politicians found within the vicinity of polling stations after casting their votes in the forthcoming elections and the Inspector General of Police also said he has uncovered a plot by some politicians to sew police uniforms for their loyalists who would move during elections with vehicles bearing fake police number plates, so as to create confusion and perpetrate evil.
Lol,i see they are not taking chances...we know what kind of "magomago" can ensue...!

And just when you think we couldnt have any more public holidays...the Federal Government declared yesterday and today work free days to enable Nigerians to participate effectively in the forthcoming general elections.The public holidays will also allow eligible Nigerians who registered outside their places of work to travel home for the exercise.
You see the government aint playing,so all eligible voters should please "rock the vote"!

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said two British firms will manage the transmission of the results from the Presidential, Governorship, National and State Assembly elections slated for April 14 and 21.The British companies are Gilat and WITNESS.This comes as election observer missions numbering over 200, at the weekend, besieged the INEC headquarters seeking accreditation to monitor and observe the elections.

British Telecom (BT) has pulled out of the technical services agreement with Transcorp for the management of NITEL and MTel. Transcorp, with BT as its technical partner had acquired a 51 per cent stake in NITEL last year under the privatisation exercise handled by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).But in a letter to Transcorp, BT cited the unavailability of working capital needed to turn around NITEL and MTel, and the lack of adherence to corporate governance principles by the companies' management and their boards as the reason for its decision to withdraw from the agreement.In recent weeks,Transcorp shares recorded a slump with a drop from N9.71 kobo per share to N8.34 kobo per share.Since trading resumed last week,Transcorp's shares have slumped again,closing in at N7.93 kobo a share by end of trading last Thursday.

Hello everyone,it's that time again...Interview time and for your reading pleasure,
we have got the man behind "Kosibah Creations" -- Yemi Osunkoya!!!

Yemi "Kosibah" Osunkoya is a bridal couture, evening and formal daywear designer whose designs are known for accentuating the female form,creating a beautiful hour-glass silhouette for anyone who wears his outfits.His work has won him many awards including "Fashion Personality of the Year 2000", "Designer of the Year 2002" at the Mahogany Wedding Award, and "The Highly Commended Award" at the National Wedding Show 2002 where he was the only black designer showcasing his collections.
He has dressed stars such as Alesha Dixon lead singer of the now defunct "Mis-Teeq",BBC's Angela Griffen, Sheila Ferguson of "Three Degrees" and Helen Fraser of ITV's "Bad Girls" to name a few. Let's not bore you with all our witterings,read on for the interview!!!

Naija Vixen: Can you give us a little bit about your personal background? What kind of family unit did you grow up in and how it was growing up?

Yemi Osunkoya: I am the third of four boys born to my parents, the late Professor Babatunde Olusiji Osunkoya and Mrs. Beryl Cosiba Osunkoya. I had a very happy childhood spent in the relative tranquillity of the University of Ibadan campus where we lived, as my father worked at the University College Hospital. I attended primary school at the senior staff school, University of Ibadan where my interest and talent for drawing was nurtured and encouraged. I went on to attend International school Ibadan where I obtained my O Levels.

Naija Vixen: Before the birthing of the "Kosibah" line, what were you into fashion
wise? And how did you come about the name?

Yemi Osunkoya: From a very early age, I had been making very detailed drawings of human figures. I would be taken to weddings by my parents and on my return I would create detailed drawings of the entire bridal train (even down to the ‘bump’ in the stomach of the bride in some cases!). I guess this is where the seed of my passion for Bridalwear was sown. I was encouraged greatly by my parents, especially by my mother who would take my latest artistic efforts to show her colleagues in the Midwifery Department in the University Hospital. It is the love, firm belief in me and unshaken support given to me by my mother that shaped my decision to name my label after her as a tribute. Cosiba is the Day Name given to a girl born on a Sunday in the Republic of Benin, where my mother’s family originally comes from. I changed the spelling to Kosibah.

Naija Vixen: How did you get into fashion design?

Yemi Osunkoya: After a year of A-Levels, I decided to pursue a career in Fashion Design. I was very fortunate to have forward thinking parents who supported this decision, but insisted I took a University Degree first before going on to study fashion. I was admitted to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (then known as University of Ife) under the J.A.M.B. scheme where I later obtained a BA Degree in Fine Art, majoring in Textile Design. While I was there, I started designing outfits for friends and family, using local tailors to make up the designs and even staged fashion shows on Campus. It was in my first year at O.A.U. that I met Adebayo Jones, who was already a student there and we have been very good friends since then.

Naija Vixen: Were there any celebrity or fashion trends/inspirations that helped your
creative visions begin?

Yemi Osunkoya: My creative vision was greatly inspired by the über glamorous Diana Ross, of whom I’ve always been a great fan. That’s why my gowns have a very glamorous and ‘Red Carpet’ slant to them.

NV: When was the Kosibah brand officially created and what were some of the
first moves made? Was there any schooling or self-training involved in the process of you getting Kosibah Clothing launched?

Yemi Osunkoya:I later came to the UK and studied Fashion Design at the Paris Academy School of Fashion, Oxford Street, London, where I obtained “A” grade Diplomas in Couture Women and Menswear.

I completed my courses in the early nineties during the height of the recession. As no Design Houses were clamouring to hire me, despite scores of letters sent out, I decided with the generous input of cash from my mother, to set up Kosibah Creations officially in September 1991 from premises in a converted warehouse off the Gray’s Inn Road, W1. Leading up to my official start date, I went on a Government sponsored course in Business Planning, Marketing, Taxation, PR etc. and this was very helpful in emphasizing the business and administrative aspect of running a fashion Label.

NV: Many people think brands are overnight successes which are almost never the
case. What were some of the doubts and struggles you had, that you look back and probably could have avoided possibly?

Yemi Osunkoya: The fact that I set up Kosibah Creations without any bank loan or financial backer (aside from my mother) and without previously working for any designer, meant that the early years were extremely challenging and I would probably advise any young designers planning to go into the industry to do it differently. That’s one of the reasons I have been giving work placements to fashion students for years to show them the realities of the industry while still studying or just after graduating where they face the chicken and egg situation of no one hiring them because they have no experience and unable to gain experience because no one wants to hire them! But focus, determination to succeed, hard work and most importantly my love for creating figure enhancing gowns that play such a significant part of a woman’s special day kept me going during the difficult times.

NV: What was your big breakthrough?

Yemi Osunkoya: After a few years of designing both Women and Menswear, I came to the conclusion that I did not find Menswear artistically challenging and at the same time, I realized my designs were more suited to Bridal and eveningwear because of the time-consuming Couture techniques I used in their creation. In 2000, I was commissioned by the Drama Department of the BBC to design and create a bridal gown to be worn by the British actress Angela Griffin for the mini-series “Baby Father” later aired in October 2001. That same year, I dressed 3 cast members of the ITV series Bad Girls for the National Television Awards where the show won best Drama Series and the whole cast went on stage to accept the award.

NV: You are mainly into Bridal couture, formal daywear and evening dresses...but
would you ever consider branching out into say, casual wear?

Yemi Osunkoya: I believe very strongly in identifying an area of expertise and sticking to it and doing it extremely well. I have established my reputation in Couture Bridal and Eveningwear and therefore I have no plans to branch out to casual wear. I intend however to explore the possibility of designing accessories such as shoes, bags, jewellery etc. under the Kosibah Creations label, but made by experts in those fields.

NV: Who would you like to dress that you haven't yet?

Yemi Osunkoya: Gosh! There are quite a few and they sometimes change, but I’d love to dress Oprah Winfrey. Her figure very much suits my designs which are aimed at women with curves, a strong sense of style and an appreciation of the amount of work that goes into making a Couture gown, and of course the exposure would be priceless.

NV: I know that your business keeps you on the move, so where are your favourite places to travel to? What's the most historically interesting place you've been to?

Yemi Osunkoya: If I had to choose then I’d have to say Egypt, where I visited Luxor and Cairo. I saw the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Valley of the Kings. It was very difficult to comprehend that you were standing next to and in some cases touching things that were thousands and thousands years old.

NV: If you were not a designer, you would be a...?

Yemi Osunkoya: If I were not a fashion designer (though I find that almost impossible to imagine because I’ve known what I’ve wanted to do from such an early age), I guess I’d be a fashion stylist because I have a very clear vision about how a whole look can be put together from head to toe, or a Fashion Illustrator.(boring, but the truth).

NV: Splurged first pay cheque on...?

Yemi Osunkoya: So long ago, I can hardly remember, but most likely shoes as they are my weakness.

NV: Currently Reading...?

Yemi Osunkoya: ‘A day late, A Dollar short’ by Terry Macmillan. I’ve read ‘Waiting to exhale’ and ‘How Stella got her groove back’ both which I very much enjoyed.

NV: Muse...?

Yemi Osunkoya: Again this tends to change, but at the moment I’d say Halle Berry.

NV: Who is your favourite designer, living or dead?

Yemi Osunkoya: Anthony Price – In the 70’s and 80’s he was the master of sculpting the body with his use of internal corsetry in gowns.

NV: When is your next show coming up and where will it be showcased?

Yemi Osunkoya: I’m participating in the Mahogany Bridal Show this Sunday (March 25th) at the Barbican Exhibition Centre. My gowns will be on the Catwalk and I’ll also have a stand. After that, my next show is the Black & White Fashion Show in Slovenia in May on the invitation of the Slovenian/ Nigerian Association and the Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary.

any message you would like to deliver to the on-line readers?

Yemi Osunkoya: I’d like to thank anyone that took the time to send in questions. To any Brides-to-be in Nigeria, I intend to be visiting Lagos at regular intervals where I would be able to have consultations and take orders for Bridal gowns and also do toile fittings (the brides would have to visit the UK to try on and collect the final garment). I will be in Lagos in April from the 23rd till the 30th. Consultations would be by appointment and you can contact me through my website.

The second edition of Hip Hop World Awards held last Saturday, 17th of March, 2007 at the Muson centre in Lagos and it was a fun night all around with awards for almost everyone and brilliant performances ;-) but the highlight of the night was Paul Play winning four awards!!!He described winning the awards as "This must be the finest moment of my career" and we think so too...he definitely deserved it with this album.Anyways full list of winners below:

Anyway,had a look at the pictures and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at most of the fashion outfits...dont get me wrong,there were still some "WTF OUTFITS" ;-) but on the whole they tended to keep it simple and gorgeous...maybe cos they are the "Grown and Sexy" set!Enuff talking...happy viewing!!!

Airlines caught with old planes after the deadline will be denied their services as the reason for this is to clean up the system and reposition it for safety.

Sunday 25th of March,Nigeria will join the rest of the world to celebrate 200 years of the abolition of slave trade.Now although slavery in it's purest form may have being "abolished" we still have all the subtle forms happening around the world..may God help us and may we help ourselves too.

7 students have gone missing in 2 weeks at Adekunle Ajasin University and there are fears that they may have been used in ritual killings.Last week, four male students of the school were allegedly kidnapped by some men suspected to be ritualists when they offered the missing students free ride in their cars.The four students, according to a student, who sought for anonymity, were giving free ride by the suspected ritualists after the students had finished lectures around 5pm.
According to the source, the four students have not been seen since then.While the university was still trying the unravel this mystery, three female students got missing..
